Bandwidth Usage Exceeds 800 Gbps This Year
The use of internet bandwidth exceeds 800 Gbps across the country. This landmark crosses 820 Gbps in last week of September. It has been increased for the last 10 days, sources said. Earlier, the use of internet bandwidth for the first time exceeded 500 Gbps at the end of December 2007.
How it has been possible? More than 300 Gbps internet bandwidth has been increased just within eight months. The authority concerned said it has been possible due to use of 4G network and fibre optic connectivity, the overall digitization process.
Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said this speed of bandwidth usage is a normal result. Since 2009 the government is working to spread internet across the country. He said, ” Submarine cable has been launched in 2006. From 2006 to 2008 it was only up to 8 Gbps. From now this usage has been increased 100 times.’’
Fibre optic connection has been established at the Upazila and union level. 3G-4G has been introduced. 88% data have been using through mobile phone across the country. When 4G was launched in February, the use of 100 Gbps bandwidth had been increased within a month. “The minister said, there will be no space left in the country’s island, enclaves, remote areas, where there will be no internet connection. If fibre optics cannot be given in any way, the satellite will be used there, but the internet connection will go definitely, he added.
According to the BTRC, at the end of August, there were 9.5 million internet connections in the country. Of which only 6 million broadband connections. Broadband service providers said that the highest cost of bandwidth in broadband connections.
Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) general secretary Emdadul Haq told to media, the subscriber of broadband subscribers is now 6.5 million where their total bandwidth usage is more than 450 Gbps.
At the beginning of this year, it was near 250 Gbps. It has been almost twice. This seems to grow faster, an internet businessman expects. According to different statistics, 500 Gbps are now being used through the Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company (BSCCL). Now BSCCL has two alternative connections. Moreover, more than 300 Gbps bandwidth comes from India through Internet terrestrial cable.

Bangladesh, Microsoft Sign on Cyber Security Deal
Microsoft will support the Government on Government Security Program (GSP). For this purpose, Microsoft has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and IT of Bangladesh Government. Under the agreement, Microsoft’s Digital Crime Unit (DCU) will provide the necessary information to the National Information Center and CIRT department of the Ministry.
The agreement was signed at the conference room of ICT Tower in Agargaon on Wednesday. On behalf of Bangladesh government, Director of National Information Center of Bangladesh Computer Council Tariq M. Barkatullah has signed the agreement. On behalf of Microsoft, President of the Southeast Asian wing, Suk Hoon Chiyah has signed the agreement.
Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that Bangladesh is digitally going fast in the signing ceremony.
However, the cybersecurity needs to be confirmed much for the proper development of the IT sector. It is important for Bangladesh to protect online security and detect cyber threats. He said this agreement with Microsoft will help the cybersecurity of this country. Because the government is working relentlessly to strengthen national security at the virtual spaces.
Microsoft will provide information malware risk and its weaknesses in Bangladesh. The company will also help to identify the risks and threats of the IT infrastructure of Bangladesh.

Now Enjoy MNP Service Without Paying Any SIM tax
The government is releasing SIM TAX from users who want to migrate into different operator keeping mobile number unchanged. As MNP charge the subscriber had to pay 100 taka more as sim replacement tax to avail this MNP service.
The acting chairman of BTRC Md. Jahurul Haque ensured the tax releasing matter to media. Directions have been sent to the NBR on behalf of the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday. Although it has not yet been issued by NBR.
Managing Director of Teletalk, Mabrur Hussain told to the journalist that it is a good news for the customer. They had to pay Tk 150 to 155 to get the service. Now they will have to pay only 57 taka. More customers will take advantages from this service due to a tax cut.
7.5 taka has been included as VAT along with 50 taka service charge. As this consequences, the customer will avail this service only by 57.5 taka.
Since the customer has to change the SIM, Therefore, the operator has to provide 100 taka as replacement Tax to the NBR. Here the operators are taking this money from the customers.
So the customer is spending 157.50 taka every time to take the service.
For the emergency case, the customer will have to another 100 taka that costs total 272.50 taka15% taxes. The prepaid subscribers will not be required to provide emergency fees as the service is being completed within 10 to 15 minutes. first day of Around 10,222 customers has requested to take the service from the first day of the launching in October.
