Most the children like to watch videos on YouTube. But this video viewing platform has many videos that are not suitable for children.

Children may click on the YouTube’s Sidebar Suggested videos which is not suitable kids. Even after searching for a specific video, some of the inappropriate video links may appear in front of their eyes.

However, the guardians can keep these inappropriate videos away from their children. Just do these steps.

First of all, open a separate Gmail ID for the child. The computer that your child use for YouTube, go to that PC and open YouTube website in the browser. Then click on the login option on the right side of YouTube and get logged in with the newly opened Gmail ID.

Then click the ‘Settings’ option of youtube. You can find it at the bottom of the sidebar of home page. At the bottom of the settings page you can see four options, ‘Language’, ‘Country’, ‘Restricted Mode’, ‘Help’. You need to click on ‘Restricted Mode’ option.

Then select the option ‘On’ and click on the ‘Save’ button. By doing this, the inappropriate videos will not be shown on the search or suggestion page.

You can also turn on the ‘Restricted Mode’ option in the Youtube app. For this, you need to go to the YouTube app on the phone and click the user profile icon on the right. Then click on the ‘Settings’ option. Here click on ‘General’ option, You will find ‘Restricted Mode’ option. From there you have to just turn the mode ‘On’.

You can also check which video is being viewed by your kids on YouTube at history option in the library.

Also, YouTube offers a separate app called ‘YouTube Kids‘ for children. Android & iOS users can download the app. But this app is not yet operational for users of Bangladesh.

YouTube is accused by an American organization for breaking child safety laws. On this, the organization has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Their allegation is that YouTube is gathering information about 13-year-old children. Parents are not informed about taking information from children.

The name of the 23-member organization is Child Safety and Privacy Advocacy Group. The organization also runs a campaign called Commercial-Free Childhood. On behalf of the campaign, a statement on their website was also published.

There, they said that all the websites directed to the children should be informed of their collection of personal information to their parents. Advertising is promoted using kids browsing habit and location data. The YouTube policy states that anyone under the age of 13 should not be using YouTube. But YouTube knows very well that their website is very popular for kids. Rhyme video, cartoon, toy advertisements are shown on many channels. But they are not taking any action to protect them.

In response to this complaint, YouTube’s parent company Google said that YouTube is not for kids. They also said that the complaint copies have not reached on their hands yet. After getting the complaint copy, then the matter will be examined. There was no option to target kids for their advertiser. YouTube has a special app for the children called YouTube Kids App. This totally designed for the kids.
